Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano on Thursday, June 5, announced the cancellation of the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir’s Durbar in the state.

Explaining the reason behind the cancellation of the popular and prestigious religious festivity, the Emir said there is a need to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors of Kano State.

He also said that standing down on Durbar activities during this year’s Sallah celebration will help in the maintenance of a peaceful atmosphere.

Speaking during a press conference at his palace late Thursday, the Emir said his decision to cancel the 2025 Sallah Durbar stems from several consultations between the emirate and the Kano State government.

He also said that the decision was taken in the best interest of the people of Kano and with the aim of ensuring a peaceful Eid celebration.

Sources within the palace said the decision to cancel the Durbar came shortly after the Emir had summoned the district heads to the palace.

The source said the invitation by the Emir was aimed at making preparations for this year’s Durbar activities.

However, all preparations were put to a stop with the decision to cancel the Durbar.

Recall that during the last Sallah, the police had issued a warning to the emirate over its plan to conduct Durbar.

According to the police, the caution followed the tension building in the state following the crisis that rocked the emirate.
