Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has said that anyone’s ambition to become president of Nigeria should not be for personal gains.
Obi said this in a post on X following the book presentation of “OBI: The Political Change Agent” written by Ike Abonyi, a founding Deputy Managing Director of New Telegraph Newspaper.
The former governor of Anambra State warned that Nigeria is at a critical stage and is yearning for sincere and accountable leadership.
He wrote, “The fight is not about personal ambition, it is about the future of our children, the integrity of our institutions, and the soul of our nation. We must continue to believe in a new Nigeria, one built on justice, equity, and service to the people.”
Commending the author of the book, Obi said Abonyi did a great job of putting together not just a political journey, but a call for transformational leadership rooted in competence, capacity character, and compassion.
According to him, the book presentation ushers in the rebirth of the Obidient movement with the main focus of creating a new Nigeria for future generations.
He further commended the keynote speaker at the event, Sam Amadi for his thought-provoking speech on the need for a new Nigeria.
He added, “At the event, I reiterated what I have always stood for, that our votes must count and that democracy must reflect the will of the people, not the manipulation of a few.”
