The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has named retired educationist Ifeoma Okaro as his running mate for the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
Moghalu made the announcement on Friday during an interactive session with ward chairmen, councillors, and women leaders in Awka.
Okaro hails from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area. She is a seasoned administrator and former Chairperson of the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission. Okaro currently leads the Education Directorate of the Anglican Communion in Anambra.
“She is a committed party member, with a wealth of experience, a shared objective, and a strategic vision to change the narrative of governance in Anambra State,” Moghalu said.
“My deputy and I have resolved not to let you down.
We will keep our promises. Hold me accountable, I will not disappoint you,” he declared.
He also urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, emphasising that unity and loyalty are critical to the Labour Party’s success.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier confirmed Moghalu’s candidacy under the Labour Party for the 2025 Anambra governorship race, a development that reinforced Julius Abure’s leadership as the party’s recognised National Chairman.
Moghalu emerged as the party’s flagbearer during the April 5 primary held in Awka, defeating John Nwosu with 573 votes to 19.
