A suspected kidnap kingpin, Ya’u shittu has been arrested by officers of the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
Shittu was arrested during a raid by the Scorpion Squad of the police deployed to the Mpape Area of the FCT.
A counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama in a post on X said the 27-year-old suspected kidnapper hails from Kafanchan Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
Sources within the police said Shittu was arrested at about 2.28 pm on Friday, June 13, following a digital forensic intelligence.
The kidnap kingpin is said to have been on the police radar over his connection with the kidnapping and the killing of a pastor in Mpape in 2024.
According to the source, Shittu has since his arrested and confessed to engaging in key kidnapping operations around the Katampe and Abuja environs.
He also said his gang at some point received a ransom payment of N10 million for the release of one of his victims.
He added that he personally pocketed the sum of N500,000 from that particular operation.
Having named eight members of his kidnapping syndicate who are currently at large.
The police have intensified efforts to arrest the other suspects, recover their operational weapons and immediately charge them to court.
