There was chaos at the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting in the North-East on Sunday after top party leaders failed to mention Vice-President Kashim Shettima while endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
The meeting, held in Gombe State, was attended by governors, ministers, lawmakers, and key stakeholders of the party from across the region.
Comrade Mustapha Salihu, national vice-chairman of the APC (North-East), sparked outrage when he endorsed Tinubu to emerge as the party’s unopposed candidate for the 2027 presidential election but made no reference to Shettima.
The omission triggered an immediate backlash from delegates at the event, many of whom began shouting and hurling insults at Salihu. Some threatened physical attack, forcing security operatives to escort him out of the venue.

To douse the tension, Bukar Dalori, deputy national chairman (North), took the podium to endorse both Tinubu and Shettima for a second term.
Vice-President Shettima hails from Borno, one of the six states in the North-East geopolitical zone.
However, the tension resurfaced after the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, also failed to mention Shettima’s name while reaffirming support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Ganduje, whose speech lasted around 10 minutes, did not acknowledge the vice president throughout his remarks.
Like Salihu, he was later escorted out of the meeting by security personnel as the atmosphere grew increasingly hostile.
