Former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele is set to appear before Justice Hallilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court this Monday, charged with the illegal acquisition of a 753‑unit housing estate in Abuja.

In its amended charge (CR/350/25) filed May 30, 2025, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alleges that Mr. Emefiele “unlawfully acquired a housing estate comprising 753 units of houses, and allegedly stole and controlled billions of naira in proxy accounts.”

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Prosecutors further claim he colluded with one Eric Ocheme—currently at large—to secure the property at Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, FCT, measuring 150,462.86 sqm.

The sprawling estate was previously recovered from an unnamed former senior government official and forfeited to the federal government under a court order obtained by the EFCC.

Mr. Emefiele, acting through his senior counsel A.M. Kotoye, SAN, had challenged the forfeiture as an interested party, but the court “dismissed Emefiele’s motion” in its ruling.

No comments were immediately available from Mr. Kotoye. The EFCC will present its evidence of alleged unlawful enrichment and property acquisition when the arraignment begins on Monday.
