The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has arrived in Benue State following a recent wave of brutal attacks that have left scores dead and hundreds displaced.
The visit comes amid mounting national outrage over the rising spate of violence, widely attributed to suspected herdsmen.
The killings are also linked to reignited longstanding tensions between farming communities and nomadic groups in the North Central region.
In response to the crisis, President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, charged security agencies to take swift and decisive action to halt the carnage and restore order.
“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough,” President Tinubu declared in a statement.
“I have directed the security agencies to act decisively and arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and prosecute them.”
