President Bola Tinubu has said that it is important for Nigerians to learn how to share and accommodate each other.
Speaking during a town hall meeting in Makurdi, Benue State’s capital city, Tinubu said there is enough land for all to feed and live together as a family.
The president also queried the cause of the incessant conflict in Benue and some other states of the country.
He said, “What is the cause of the conflict? I heard […] about land grabbing, but if we learn how to share and how to accommodate we have enough land to feed, to raise our children.”
In addition, Tinubu urged the Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia to do his best to ensure a channel is created for citizens’ engagement.
“What we can do is to equally find a channel or a radio station for Benue. So that we keep talking to each other about tolerance, and the capacity to build our family as one single family.
“We can continue to promote dialogue, tolerance, and unity as one family. Establish a committee of elders, including former leaders of the state.
“I salute those who have governed this state before and particularly my friend, George Akume. We didn’t have to come, we received a lot of yams and foodstuff from him,” Tinubu added.
Recall that the president on Wednesday, June 18, visited Benue state to get a first-hand assessment of the impact of the recent attack on Yelewata town.
During his visit, the president was at the hospital to meet with survivors of the attack who were receiving medical attention.
He further headed to the Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House for a stakeholders’ town hall meeting.
