A former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon has said that he owes most of his achievements in life and the Nigerian Military to his upbringing.
Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Gowon said the training he received from home, school and military institutions among others served as the building block of his life.
“I had a good upbringing from home, from school and from my various military trainings.
“And of course, I was brought up in a very strict religious condition,” Gowon said.
The former Head of State noted that most importantly, he was trained to remain loyal to his country.
He said that he was never prepared to take up leadership as Nigeria’s Head of State.
According to Gowon, he was born to rule and the training he gathered over the course of his life nurtured him for the leadership role.
“So I feel back on either or all of these and I was not prepared simply to rule Nigeria but I was trained as a loyal solider; to be loyal to my country, to be loyal to my head of state.
“I assumed the position as Head of State at 31, I was not born to rule, but I had sufficient training and education to be able to appreciate the situation and take the best possible action,” the former Head of State said.
