The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda has issued a fresh directive to all Divisional Police Officers over their handling of cases involving petty offenders.

Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State police command disclosed that Abaniwonda directed that all bailable offences should not be delayed.

Edafe disclosed this in a post made on X via his X account on Wednesday, June 18.

He said that the CP in a firm directive instructed that all DPOs and officers of the command must ensure that suspects involved in simple offences are admitted to bail within the shortest period.

According to Edafe, the commissioner of police’s Oder to DPOs follows the directive of the Inspector General of Police on granting bail to pottery offenders.

He further warned that petty offenders must not spend a night in the police cell.

Edafe said, “In compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun Phd NPM, the Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has issued a firm directive to DPOs and officers of the command that henceforth all suspects involved in bailable offences such as simple offences or misdemeanours should be granted bail unconditionally and they must not be made to sleep in the cell.”

In addition, the Delta Police spokesperson advised Nigerians to ensure they keep the screenshot of his post for their use.

“Screenshot this and keep it on your phone. Ensure that you have a reliable surety, please.

“For any breach of this directive, send a What’s App complaint with details to 09011112311,” Edafe added.
