Governor mourns as high-voltage surge kills Permanent Secretary, 4 others in Gombe

A high-voltage electricity surge in the Tudun Wadan Pantami area of Gombe Metropolis has led to the electrocution of a Permanent Secretary, Muhammad Kulani and four others.

Kulani, a Permanent Secretary at the Gombe State’s Ministry of Special Duties and Regional Integration died after the surge which occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

Thirteen other residents of the area were also said to have sustained various degrees of injuries from the electricity surge.

Eyewitnesses said the late permanent secretary was electrocuted while he tried to open the gate of his residence.

He was with his daughter, who survived the unfortunate incident when it happened.

Kulani’s daughter, neighbours say is, currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

However, the deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Confirming the incident, the governor of the state, Inuwa Yahaya described the incident as tragic.

Yahaya, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Misilli said the incident is heartbreaking and a colossal loss to the state and families of the deceased.

“I received with profound sadness the devastating news of the tragic electrocution incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, in Tudun Wadan Pantami, which led to the death of five individuals and left several others injured,” the statement said.

He further urged residents of the area to remain calm as the state is dedicated to working with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the cause of the mishap.

The governor also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased while asking God to comfort their families and loved ones.
