The Nigerian Army says eight notorious bandit kingpins have surrendered their weapons and released 16 kidnapped victims in Dan Musa LGA of Katsina State.
The development, announced via a post on the Army’s official X handle on Sunday, is part of the military’s ongoing surrender and disengagement initiative under Operation Fasin Yamma.
According to the Army, the initiative was carried out in collaboration with key stakeholders in the state.
The bandit leaders identified as Kamulu Buzaru, Manore, Nagwaggo, Lalbi, Alhaji Sani, Dogo Baidu, Dogo Nahalle, and Abdulkadir Black were operating in Dan Musa LGA before their surrender on 14 June 2025.
The Army said: “The surrendered weapons have been secured in custody.
“As part of the gesture, the group released 16 kidnapped persons, comprising seven women and nine children, and pledged to release the remaining captives in their custody by 15 June 2025.”
The Army said all rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate local government authorities.
It added that the security situation in the area remains stable, with troops maintaining a strong presence and continuous monitoring to sustain peace and stability.
The military also said the bandits expressed their willingness to renounce banditry and embrace peaceful coexistence.
