The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume on Tuesday, arrived in Yelewata town ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Benue State.
Akume arrived in the state alongside other members of the presidential advance party, including Sunday Dare, the special adviser on media and communication to the president.
Dare in a photo post shared on X said, he was in the state in preparation for the president’s visit.
He also stated that the people of Benue had gathered to converse with some Abuja-based leaders and lawmakers who visited Yelewata town.
He wrote, “Presently in Yelwata village, one of the villages attacked recently in Benue ahead of the visit of President Bola Tinubu tomorrow.
“The people gathered dejectedly to hear from their leaders & lawmakers from Abuja.
“The conversation and consultation was led by the SGF George Akume,” Dare stated.
In another post, Dare stated that Makurdi, the Benue State’s capital city is currently filling up.
He noted that several notable leaders including retired military generals, politicians and the like are on the ground ahead of the president’s on-site assessment of the impact of the attacks in the state.
He said, “Makurdi, Benue State is gradually filling up ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s Wednesday visit.
“Retired Generals, serving and retired politicians, former and serving Ministers, serving and former federal lawmakers, notables, community leaders, businessmen of Benue origin, academics, civil society leaders, youth leaders, APC leaders and other party leaders are on the ground, political appointees also.
“This time, a renewed commitment to stopping the bloodletting and finding a lasting solution seems on hand.
“They have come around because they also believe that President Tinubu will engage and ensure that peace returns,” Dare added.
