As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, I, Hon. Idris Yusuf, a House of Representatives hopeful from Kaura Federal Constituency, Southern Kaduna, wish to sincerely call on His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, to consider joining the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) as a solid and stable platform for his 2027 presidential ambition.
From my personal investigations and findings across Kaduna State and the wider North, it is clear that Peter Obi remains one of the most loved and trusted political figures in Northern Nigeria today. The love and acceptance I have personally witnessed in Kaduna State alone confirm that his influence is real and growing beyond imagination.
I am personally waiting for Mr. Obi’s political direction before making a formal declaration of my ambition under any party. However, I strongly believe that aligning with the Zenith Labour Party will not only provide him a crisis-free platform but also a credible structure to mobilize genuine and loyal followers across the country.
It is important to note that ZLP has successfully conducted its National Convention, producing a united and legitimate leadership that will pilot its affairs for the next four years — a stability that most major parties presently lack. The ZLP also enjoys a unique advantage of being the last party on the ballot, which simplifies voter identification and makes mobilization easier nationwide.
With strategic mobilization and grassroots work, I am convinced that Peter Obi can secure at least 25% of the votes in Northern Nigeria, while his performance in the North Central States such as Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau will be massive, judging from the impressive records of the 2023 elections.
This is the right time for Mr. Obi to make a clear political decision. Doing so early will not only strengthen his 2027 campaign but also help attract credible, serious-minded, and good-character politicians who can win elections at various levels under his chosen party. Many politicians who genuinely believe in Obi’s vision are still waiting for clarity on his next political platform.
The uncertainty surrounding his party choice is the main reason why some of his admirers and followers are drifting to the APC and other parties. I strongly believe that once Mr. Obi declares his political direction, many will return to rally behind him.
I also want to use this opportunity to caution Mr. Obi against falling into the trap of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), given the ongoing court cases concerning its national leadership. From my understanding, there is a high possibility that the APC could exploit these legal battles to destabilize the party, especially if the matter reaches the Supreme Court.
Finally, it is clear that Atiku Abubakar will not step down in 2027, and any delay in making a firm political move might weaken the chances of building a stronger alternative force.
Therefore, I strongly urge Mr. Peter Obi to make the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) his political home. The earlier he aligns with this stable and progressive platform, the better his chances will be for victory in 2027.
