A legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Adamu Kabiru Adamu, Esq., has called on the newly appointed Service Chiefs to complement recent political reshuffles with urgent and decisive action to tackle the worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 24, 2025, Adamu congratulated the new Service Chiefs on their appointments but stressed that their emergence comes at a critical moment in Nigeria’s history — a period marked by rising insecurity, public distrust, and a growing demand for reform within the security sector.
He noted that while the government acted swiftly in reshuffling the nation’s security leadership amid coup rumours, the same level of urgency must be shown in confronting the insurgency, banditry, and terrorism plaguing the northern region.
“The issue of insecurity in Northern Nigeria ought to be treated with the same sense of urgency and seriousness as matters of national politics,” he said, adding that years of neglect, displacement, and violence have eroded citizens’ confidence in the system.

Adamu criticized the growing tendency among some public officials and security leaders to encourage citizens to defend themselves, describing it as a “disturbing abdication of constitutional responsibility.” He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution clearly vests the duty of protecting lives and property in the government, not the people.
“These kinds of urgent actions should not only be applied when political offices are at stake but also when the lives and properties of citizens are under threat,” he stated.
He urged the new Service Chiefs and other security heads to demonstrate courage, sincerity, and coordination in restoring peace and stability across the country.
Adamu also described the appointment of a new Chief of Staff as a vital opportunity to “change the course of history” by rebuilding public confidence and ending the reign of banditry and terrorism in Nigeria.
“The nation watches with hope that this new leadership will rise to the challenge and prove that Nigeria can still win the fight against insecurity,” he concluded.
