The national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has received over 1,230 returning party members who rejected pressure to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), choosing instead to reaffirm their commitment to the NNPP.

The returning supporters, drawn from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas in the Kano South Senatorial District, were previously aligned with the Waraka political group loyal to Hon. Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila.

Their decision was officially announced during a well-attended political gathering at Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road, Kano.

Welcoming the returnees, Senator Kwankwaso described their decision as a bold stand for ideology-driven politics, noting that it signified growing support for the NNPP’s vision of progressive leadership and grassroots development.

“I am always happy to receive people who believe in our cause — not because of financial incentives, but because they understand the value of principled politics.

“This is politics of integrity, not the politics of the highest bidder,” Kwankwaso stated.

Speaking on behalf of the returnees, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo expressed their unwavering support for Kwankwaso and the NNPP, citing the senator’s consistent advocacy for the people and his refusal to engage in transactional politics.

“Our political future lies with the NNPP. Senator Kwankwaso has shown time and again that he is for the people. He builds communities, not just alliances,” said Zamba.

Their return is widely seen as a strategic boost for the NNPP in Kano South, especially as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to intensify.
