The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing the President as a courageous reformer who offered himself “as a sacrifice for Nigeria.”

Speaking during the 2025 Eid-el Kabir prayers in Iwo, Osun State, the traditional ruler likened Tinubu’s bold reforms to the historic sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, which is commemorated during the Eid celebration.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, on Friday, the Oluwo urged Nigerians to look beyond short-term discomforts and support President Tinubu’s transformative agenda.

“Patriotic Nigerians have a duty to promote reality by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term in office. His reform efforts are vital to restoring the lost glory of Nigeria,” the monarch said.

Oba Akanbi hailed Tinubu for taking on entrenched challenges that past leaders avoided, especially the removal of fuel subsidy, a policy decision he described as a “monumental sacrifice” for the nation’s long-term good.

“Almost all past Presidents avoided removing fuel subsidy. Many who tried failed to enforce it until a radical President came forward and offered himself for Nigeria. He respects the path of greatness and is laying the foundation for generations to come,” he noted.

The monarch insisted that Tinubu’s administration is already showing signs of progress, citing improving wages and declining food prices.

He urged Nigerians to “see beyond their nose” and remain steadfast in supporting reforms.

“Tinubu is not a business-as-usual President. He dares reality and puts honour above distractions. Anyone trying to stop Nigeria’s greatness will be consumed by the train of progress led by this administration,” he said.

Reiterating his call for national unity and focus, the Oluwo added, “Let’s be agents of reality, growth, and development. We’re getting closer. Nigeria must be great again.”
