Barely 24 hours after announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Saturday met with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at an international forum in France.
Both governors, now on opposing sides of the political divide, were in attendance at the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) 2025 Special Event on Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience, held in Nice.
Governor Diri remains one of the last two PDP governors in the South-South, alongside Rivers State, following Eno’s defection.
Eno’s appearance alongside Diri follows Friday’s defection in Uyo. During an event at the Akwa Ibom Government House, Governor Eno officially dumped the PDP and declared his move to the APC.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” Eno announced at the defection event.
The ceremony was attended by several APC governors including Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Monday Okpebholo of Edo. The wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, was also present.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu followed the development from his Lagos residence.
