Ondo PDP accuses Gov Aiyedatiwa of abandoning Late Akeredolu’s projects

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of neglecting and abandoning all unfinished projects left by his predecessor, the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The opposition party made the claim in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Leye Igbabo, on Sunday.

The PDP expressed strong conviction that Governor Aiyedatiwa is deliberately attempting to destroy Akeredolu’s legacy in the state.

According to the party, the governor’s unwillingness to complete the ongoing projects is motivated by political vendetta, stemming from earlier conflicts during Akeredolu’s illness and after his death in December 2023.

The statement said, “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has boasted of his powers to halt any projects that do not align with his interests, leaving beneficiaries to find alternative funding to complete them.

“Given the abundant resources at his disposal, it is unclear why he would neglect these projects unless his aim is to erase his predecessor’s achievements.”

In response, the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) media director, Mr. Steve Otaloro, dismissed the PDP’s claims as false and politically motivated attempts to regain relevance.

He stated that Governor Aiyedatiwa has been making continuous efforts to complete all projects initiated by the late Governor Akeredolu.

Otaloro said: “Governor Aiyedatiwa served as deputy governor under Akeredolu’s administration and sees that legacy as his own. It is therefore absurd to suggest he would undermine it by neglecting ongoing projects.”

He further accused the PDP of resorting to disinformation following their failed attempt to overturn the November 16, 2024 governorship election results, which confirmed Aiyedatiwa’s victory.

The APC advised the opposition to focus on resolving internal party crises, including multiple defections by sitting governors, instead of spreading falsehoods to mislead the public.
