A legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Adamu Kabiru Adamu, has called on the Governor of Niger State, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, to immediately reopen Media Badeggi FM 90.1, describing its recent shutdown as unlawful and a threat to press freedom.
In an open letter addressed to the governor and made available to newsmen, Adamu condemned the closure of the Minna-based radio station, saying it violates the constitutional right to freedom of expression and undermines Nigeria’s democratic principles.
He stated, “A free and independent media is the backbone of every functioning democracy. Silencing Badeggi FM without due process amounts to suppressing dissenting voices and breaching the rule of law.”
The lawyer urged the governor to reinstate the station’s licence without further delay and ensure that any regulatory issues are handled through transparent and lawful means.
He also asked Bago to publicly reaffirm his administration’s commitment to civil liberties and press freedom, warning that the continued shutdown sets a dangerous precedent.
“The people of Niger State—and indeed Nigeria—are watching. Let your legacy be one of openness, justice, and respect for the Constitution,” Adamu wrote.
