Lawyer Urges Tinubu to Honour Citizens With OON, $100,000, and Housing for Promoting Education and National Unity

A legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Adamu Kabiru Adamu, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confer national honours and substantial rewards on select Nigerians who have made outstanding contributions to education, peacebuilding, and national unity.

In a letter dated August 6, 2025, and addressed to the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, Adamu urged the President to lead efforts that promote national healing and inclusion by recognising these individuals as symbols of patriotism and integrity.

According to him, such recognition would not only reflect President Tinubu’s image as “a father to all Nigerians,” but also serve as a moral compass for the younger generation, encouraging values of unity, service, and educational advancement.

“These outstanding citizens deserve to be honoured with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a financial reward of $100,000 each, and a 3-bedroom flat at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate,” Adamu stated.

He added that both living and posthumous recognitions would “foster national healing and deepen the spirit of one Nigeria,” especially at a time when the nation is striving to strengthen unity across its diverse regions, tribes, and faiths.

“This is a golden opportunity for your administration to immortalise the legacies of those who have championed education and national development,” the letter read.

Adamu further urged the President to continue in the path of inclusiveness, justice, and merit, stressing that what the nation chooses to celebrate today will shape the future values of generations to come.

The letter, which was made available to newsmen, has sparked conversations in civil society and educational circles, with many agreeing that merit-based national recognition is a vital tool for fostering unity and development.
