Nigerian student Victor Olalusi, scores 5.0 GPA in Russia, first in the world

Victor Olalusi is not your average student. He is a genius who has achieved remarkable feats in his academic journey. He is the first person in the world to score a perfect 5.0 GPA in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow (RNRMU) in 2013 . From Architecture to Medicine: A Change of Course

Victor Olalusi was born on July 18, 1988, in Ondo State, Nigeria. He attended St. Finbarrs College Akoka Lagos for his secondary education, where he emerged as the best student in WAEC examinations in 2004. He also won several awards and competitions in mathematics and science subjects.

He gained admission into the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) to study Architecture, where he graduated with a First Class degree in 2005. However, he realized that his true passion was medicine and decided to apply for another admission into Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to study Medicine and Surgery.

He aced both the JAMB and Post UME examinations, scoring 322 and 325 respectively, and securing a place on the merit list. However, he did not enroll at OAU because he got a scholarship offer from the Federal Government of Nigeria to study Medicine in Russia under the Russia-Nigeria Bilateral Education Agreement.

He accepted the offer and left for Russia in 2007 to pursue his dream of becoming a medical doctor.

From Nigeria to Russia: A Cultural Shock

Victor Olalusi faced many challenges when he arrived in Russia. He had to adapt to a new environment, culture, language, and educational system. He also had to deal with racism, discrimination, and isolation from some of his classmates and teachers.

From Russia to Nigeria: A Homecoming

Victor Olalusi returned to Nigeria in 2013 after completing his studies in Russia. He registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and underwent the compulsory one-year housemanship training at State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State .

He also completed the compulsory National Youth Service scheme in Rivers State . He is currently pursuing his postgraduate studies and research interests.

 

He has been honored by various organizations and institutions for his outstanding achievements. He received an award from the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja in 2015 . He also received commendations from the Russian Embassy, Ondo State Government, FUTA Alumni Association, Nigerian Medical Association, among others .

He has also been invited to speak at various events and platforms such as TEDx, Rotary Club, Youth Empowerment Summit, among others.
